At Simply Collagen we care about the environment so we limit our use of plastics wherever possible. There is no plastic scoop inside the packet either.

We recommend transferring Simply Collagen to a recycled glass jar after first opening.  Collagen absorbs moisture, which allows bacteria to break it down, so keep Simply Collagen out of direct heat, in a dry place and keep it sealed for best results.

How often should I take Simply Collagen?

Simply Collagen should be taken each day.  Start with a teaspoon and adjust accordingly, as each individual is different and deficiencies will vary.

Can I take Simply Collagen while pregnant?

While Simply Collagen is safe (no added nasties, just 100% fish skins) while you are trying to conceive, we suggest once you know you are pregnant you stop and save your collagen for after the birth. Due to hypersensitivity during pregnancy, taking marine collagen supplements is not recommended. This can result in an abnormal immune system reactions ie skin rashes and allergic reactions.

Why is Marine Collagen superior to Bovine (beef) Collagen?

Marine Collagen has superior bioavailability, with its small particle size and low molecular weight, it is able to pass through the intestinal wall and into the bloodstream more efficiently. Simply Collagen (Marine Collagen) is hydrolysed (broken up into smaller peptides) which makes it easier for the body to absorb.  Therefore marine Collagen is more readily available to the body and more effective.

How long before I will notice a difference?

Results will vary between individuals, although you should start to see an improvement from as early as 4 weeks.  Remember to take  each day.

Is Simply Collagen a powder, gel or capsule?

Simply Collagen is a hydrolysed marine collagen powder.  The fine powder is flavourless and easily added to any foods - it does not dissolve as easily in cold liquids so we recommend mixing with a small amount of hot liquid first. The flavour may also be noticeable in plain waters and teas, so we do recommend mixing with coffee, yoghurt or smoothies..  Try Simply Collagen PURE in soups, scrambled eggs, smoothies, juices and coffee or try adding to your baking.

Simply Collagen PURE is made from fish skin collagen through an enzymatic hydrolysis process with a low molecular weight which allows for for optimal absorption into the body. Marine collagen peptides can provide benefits for a skin health, weight management, joint health, as well as nails and hair.

Where is Simply Collagen sourced from?

We searched the world to find Marine Collagen that was ethnical and sustainable.  We decided on wild fish collagen caught off the coast of France.  There are many issues surrounding farm reared fish and we knew that this wasn't want we wanted for our family and brand.  Rest assured you are purchasing a product that not only we take but feel happy to give to others.

When is the best time to take Simply Collagen?

You can take Simply Collagen day or night, on an empty or full tummy. The most important thing is to remember to take it each day.  It might be easier to take it at the same time each day so it becomes part of your routine. Marine collagen is full of protein so it helps us feel fuller for longer and gives us energy for that workout.

Doesn't mixing it in a hot drink ruin the effectiveness of the collagen?

No - heat breaks down collagen protein, but not collagen peptides. It is heat-stable so is safe to mix with with hot liquids.

Can Simply Collagen help acne?

Simply Collagen can help with scarring and gut health so may help with acne and breakouts.  Hydrolysed marine collagen also helps with inflammation so hopefully the nasty spots will disappear quickly and you will be left with less scarring and inflammation.  Adding Simply Collagen to your routine can help speed your own collagen formation and tissue repair which in turn helps to heal acne scars.

Are you able to source your product in NZ from NZ fish? Why does the product come from France?

We looked high and low for a high quality NZ supplier and we couldn't find a company that produced hydrolysed marine collagen in a powder form unfortunately. Rest assured, due to stringent European regulations our product is of excellent quality - sustainably sourced with full traceability.

If we do find a NZ supplier we would love to support local.

Simply Collagen for men?

Simply Collagen is great for men too.  Need help with that receding hairline or trying to grow a full and luscious beard, then Simply Collagen is perfect for you.  Marine collagen not only helps with skin and hair but gives you extra energy at the gym. Simply Collagen is not just for woman, men want to look and feel good too.

I've been reading about 1,2,3. Type 1 and 3 for skin, hair, nails etc and 2 is for joints. Can you tell me what is in your collagen please.

Yes there are many types of collagen (at least 28 different types of collagen have been identified, but three primary types tend to dominate the market).

There are also many collagen sources (fish, chicken, beef) with some being more beneficial for specific purposes.

Hydrolysed marine collagen we believe is a superior all round source of collagen and therefore our choice here at Simply Collagen.

Not only is Simply Collagen marine collagen free of diseases, more sustainably sourced (as marine collagen comes from "unwanted" parts of the fish that would have been thrown away otherwise), and better tasting, it is also the most effective, as it  the smallest type and the most bioavailable type of collagen, and therefore easily absorbed by our bodies.

Hydrolysed marine collagen is made up of single amino acids and also short strands of amino acids called peptides.  When you take these peptides, your body is able to start producing your own collagen again.  That means your body will produce Type 1 in your skin, Type 2 in your cartilage and Type 3 in your organs.

Can collagen be absorbed and do the stomach acids destroy collagen?

It was originally thought that collagen would be digested in the same method as all other proteins. But after much research it is now believed that when consumed, hydrolysed collagen peptides withstand digestion and are successfully absorbed into our bloodstream and therefore we are able to benefit from collagen consumption.

Hydrolysed marine collagen peptides stimulate your own production of collagen, so as our own collagen levels deplete it is vital to include these in our diet, either through foods rich in collagen or collagen supplements.

Dr Stefanie Williams, medical director at European Dermatology London has this to say about collagen:

"After the molecule is broken down, the fragments are absorbed into the bloodstream and distributed through the entire body, including the skin, where small fragments remain for up to 14 days. Then comes the interesting bit: your body is essentially tricked into thinking that these fragments indicate collagen breakdown – as would happen with a big tissue injury, for instance – and repair is urgently needed. So it stimulates fibroblasts to produce more collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid – the compounds that give our skin its youthful qualities. Dr Williams now concludes that collagen drinks – which include home-made bone broth – actually work by persuading our bodies to synthesise new collagen. There is data showing that certain supplements can improve hydration, skin elasticity and wrinkling.
